Locator service trial collaboration by Alzheimer’s Disease Association and StarHub: Collect and Unbox

Last month we posted about the trial by Alzheimer’s Disease Association and StarHub on OMG Solutions locator. We were selected for the trial and collected the tracker from OMG Solutions on 14 April. OMG Solutions staff went through a brief introduction with us on how to use the tracker like setting geofences, use SMS to obtain the location of the device.

Box set includes the device, charging cradle, charging cable, power plug, a lanyard and 3 pieces of anti-dust plugs. 



There is no user manual and OMG support cannot provide soft-copy when we enquired.

Two ways of charging the device: Direct plug-in or using the charging cradle. The silicone cover on the device could break eventually if you use direct plug-in charging method frequently. Personally I preferred charging the device using the cradle. It is also easier for dementia patient to retrieve the device from the cradle instead. Mum is/was struggling a bit to disconnect the cable for Trackimo and Weenect as we observed.

If you purchase the device from OMG Solutions, it does not include SIM. Their website stated free 6 months subscription though. You probably can subscribe a mobile plan separately from a Telco provider. For this trial, it included a SIM from StarHub and it is pre-installed by the OMG solutions staff. 

 Installing the SIM to the device is also quite simple according to the instructional video available on OMG solutions website.

Gas cooking hob: Another possible fire hazard?

One problem solved another problem arises. Did we over worry about Mum using the stove since she doesn’t cook at all? We can’t tell and we need to eliminate the possibility for safety reasons. Next project: Change the gas hob to induction hob. User Requirements There are many induction hobs in the market so we are spoiled with choices. One challenge that we had was to find the right size hob which can fit the existing opening at the cooking area.  Another challenge is Dad wants to reuse his old pots and pans, some of which are stainless steel. Not all stainless steel cook-wares work on induction hob, the base of the pots and pans need to be of magnetic-based material. Time passes so fast and we just renewed the subscription for a second year. Let’s take a look on what are included in the box. What's in there? The box comes with the device, International SIM, battery, mini screw driver, battery cover with magnetic attachment, silicone cover, battery cover with clip-on and USB charging cable. Size competing to a 50 cents coin According to the official website, the device weights 42grams and is 47x40x14.
